How to make a Ravioli Rolling Pin

04/22/2017 by Henry J. Mosley Leave a Comment

Ravioli is a recipe which involves a dumpling primarily consisting of flour, meat, potatoes, vegetables or even sweets wrapped around two thin layers of pasta. They can be easily prepared by frying, boiling or even steaming.

An essential component required for making a perfect Ravioli is the Rolling Pin. Depending on the desired shape needed for the ravioli, there are many variants in the shape and size of the Rolling pin to choose from the market. In this article, we would discuss on how to make a perfect Rolling pin with the help of Wood and some hard-core mechanical machines.

Things you need to have for preparing the Rolling pin are the following:

  • Teak Wood.
  • Wood Planar Machine.
  • Glue (for sticking the wooden parts with each other) and a brush to spread it.
  • A miter saw.
  • Clamp Holders.
  • Lathe machine (Not exactly required but good to have).
  • Sandpaper.

Step by step guide for making a Ravioli rolling pin:

Step 1:

Arrange a teak wood with dimensions close to half a meter for both length and width. Pass the wood through the planar wood machine so as to make the surfaces smoother which would help in gluing.

Step 2:

Cut the teak wood into some square blocks. You can choose to cut into any number of square blocks depending upon the length you required for your rolling pin.

Step 3:

Use the brush to spread the glue on the square blocks of teak woods which you obtained from step 2. Then stack all the square blocks of woods in a straight line and apply pressure with the help of clamps so as to fasten the gluing process.

Step 4:

Cut out four stripes of woods (each of same length and thickness). The length of each strip should be equal to the length of your desired rolling pin.

Step 5:

Assuming you followed correctly till step 3, by now the shape you would have obtained must be similar to a long length of a wooden block of 6 faces (4 side faces, one up face, one down face) comprised of square blocks as shown below. We now need to create a slot on each of the four side faces.

Step 6:

Select the blade of your table saw in accordance with the height and width needed of required slot on the Wooden block which we have obtained from step 3.

Step 7:

Run the wooden block over the table saw blade. Repeat this process for each of the four side faces until an empty slot is created on each of the four side faces.

Step 8:

Mount the wooden block on the lathe and spin it with a high rpm. With the help of a tool, you can reduce the diameter of your wooden block so that it resembles a shape of a cylinder which rolling pin usually are.

Step 9:

Still mounted on a lathe, use sandpaper to clear and soften the wood edges around the slot. The product should now look like the below image.

Step 10:

Use the miter saw to cut the obtained wooden block into required number of blocks as shown in the below image.

Now place the stripe of woods (obtained from step 4) onto the side face and glue them together. You can also use clamps to apply pressure so that the wooden parts stick perfectly to each other as depicted below.

For finishing, you can use mineral oil and wax and finally after following all the steps, and you get a perfect Ravioli rolling pin like the below image

As we can observe from the above process, creating a rolling pin can be accomplished quite easily. The rolling pin can also be made of different shapes and sizes. The method would usually be the same.

Making of Ravioli with the help of rolling pin

For creating a Ravioli, you just need to place the dumpling between 2 layers of thin pasta slices. And then roll over the Rolling pin on the slice. It would create beautiful Ravioli perfectly apart from each other.

Now the ravioli need to be separated from the pizza slice and then can either be cooked or even steamed.
